Azazello - Black Day

There are many points someone could stare on, to criticise this work. The tape I got doesn't even make clear the tracklisting and the title of the album. The sound quality is not what we'd call suitable, and there's almost nothing that could give more info on the band except a paper with some weblinks! As soon as you learn, though, that this band comes from Russia, you can do nothing else than pass over all these. Because it's great to see people who really love music but have to face many difficulties in the country they live in, to come over these problems and finally, to release their work, in any condition. This album is nothing exceptional for sure, but it is quite honest as a work and it shows a band that loves a lot the wholeprog rock scene. They'll remind you of Rush, Yes, Genesis, Marillion...sometimes they even get a bit more metallic. I think it's positive for them that they use vocals rather seldom. The sound production is a problem, but the band knows how to write clear melodies, and their playing abilities are undeniable. I am quite sure that if they spend more time in creating their next work and if they promote it the right way, they are able to show to all of us the whole of their talent. Until then, they remain hopeful though.

5/10
