Into Eternity - "Into Eternity" /  4-track promo CD

This band continues the long tradition Canada has in producing bands that dare to combine different styles and influences, for sure. I wouldn't compare them with the totally prototypical bands Canada has given us (Rush, Voivod, Tea Party etc) in any way, because their musical behavior is really different. This quintet takes the aggressiveness of groovy death metal and the melody and sensation of the darker side of progressive metal, and produces its own music, far away from the well known imitators that dare to call themselves "progressive". In the nine tracks of this self-financed CD (don't be afraid, the sound quality is not a problem), you will find a band that uses death growls, something between Chuck Schuldiner, Max Cavalera and early Nick Holmes, and (way more often) clear vocals (in the vein of James LaBrie mostly), complex Theater-ic arrangements, artistic keyboard work, excellent playing (especially in the guitar solos that remind of Queensryche, as well), and some great riffs and melodies you will surely like if you can stand heaviness and a bit of brutality into progressive metal. Don't expect "normal" or "relaxed" feelings here - the whole feeling behind their compositions is rather intent and dark, and this makes their work way more unique and personal. Their promo CD is in the same style, maybe a bit heavier, and of equal quality with the full length album. Many things come in mind and many names can be used to describe them, but nothing can be really accurate. Personally, I would say that their approach reminds me of the new Swedish death metal bands like Dark Tranquillity, but in a more melodic and technical way. In general, I wouldn't say that they've made their large step yet. The whole musical concept behind them is brilliant, and they seem to own both the technical abilities and the inspiration needed to carry on and to give us something that will be a masterpiece. We'll wait until then, but for now, you will surely enjoy their work, no doubt about it.
