Lana
Lane - "Secrets Of Astrology"
This is one of these specific
albums, that manage to combine both new and old-fashioned elements within
them, in a way that cannot be described as a "progressive" one, but, on
the other hand, can be really enjoyable. The base is surely quite
common. I can think of many groups of today, that stand onto the grounds
the progrock, hard rock, and pomp rock groups of the '70s explored. Lana
Lane seems to gain inspiration mainly from Styx, Yes and the Blackmore
works of that time. It's a credit for her, though, that she adds a modern
sound to the final result, and that she dares to combine many different
elements in order to create something special. The variety of styles and
melodies in this album is really admirable. From retro '70s songs to dynamic
metal riffs, and from mainstream ballads to the quite atmospheric parts,
this album is anything else than plain and boring. Add the perfect of musicianship
of people like Arjen Lucassen, Erik Norlander and Tony Franklin, and there
you have it - an album worth every single cent of its price, if you are
a fan of dreamy but yet powerful and soul-uplifting music.
